All is used with both countable and uncountable nouns.

  • All people have to eat in order to live.
  • All children are innocent.
  • All citizens are equal.
  • All cats are beautiful & All the cats in the shop are beautiful.

of can be used with all as:

  • All the eggs = All of the eggs All his time = All of his time

  • All my money = All of my mone All these cats = All of these cats

  • All these = All of these All that news = All of that news

  • All this = All of this All those books = All of those books

But of must be used with you, us, it, them

  • All of them All them

  • All of it All it

  • All of you All you

All can used in different places in a sentence

  • We are all staying here ( after auxilary)
  • They all come to the party (before the verb)
  • The students all finished their homework.
  • The workers must all come early.
  • All of their work was useless. = All their work Their all work
  • The kid ate all of it. = The kid ate it all. all it
  • She invited all of them = She invited them all. all them
  • I need all of you = I need you all. all you
  • She hates all of us. = She hates us all. all us

All sometimes means everything, the only thing

  • All (=everything) he said is a lie.
  • All (= The only thing) I need is a job.
  • All she wants to do is help.
